Russia launched a third ballistic missile attack on Kyiv this month, Ukraine By Reuters said
KYIV (Reuters) – Russia on Sunday launched its third missile attack on Kyiv in August, with preliminary data indicating that all air defenses were destroyed near the city, military commanders in the Ukrainian capital said.
“This is the third strike in the capital in August, with exact intervals of six days between each attack,” said Serhiy Popko, head of the military administration in Kyiv, on the Telegram messaging app.
“According to preliminary information, the Russians have again, for the third time in a row, probably used North Korean missiles.”
Popko added that Ukraine's air defense forces also destroyed a number of coalition warplanes launched by Russia.
The extent of the attack was not immediately clear. Popko said there were no immediate reports of injuries or casualties.
Reuters could not independently confirm the type of missiles launched. A Reuters witness heard explosions that sounded like air defense systems early Sunday morning.
About two hours after the first attack, Kyiv, the surrounding region and much of central and northeastern Ukraine were under new raid alerts, with the threat of more missiles being fired at the city, the Ukrainian military said.
