Family of Hiscox chairman Jonathan Bloomer in “unimaginable grief”

“Our parents were amazing people and inspired many.”

The Bloomer family said in a statement: “We are heartbroken for our loved ones and all those affected by this tragedy. We would like to express our gratitude to the emergency services and everyone who tirelessly helped in this rescue operation.

“Our parents were wonderful people and inspired many, but first and foremost they focused and loved their family and spending time with their new grandchildren. Together for five decades, our only consolation is that they are together now.

“This is a tragedy that will never be forgotten. All we ask is that our family's privacy be respected at this time.”

“Jonathan was a much-loved and respected colleague, and a friend,” the insurer said. “Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones at this difficult time.”

Group CEO Aki Hussain continued to highlight the contributions of the finance veteran.

“It has been an honor to know Jonathan and benefit from his generosity and wisdom over the past year,” said Hussain. “His deep experience across our industry and the broader business arena, combined with his personal values, made him an excellent chair and someone I was proud to know and work with.

“His advice and support were invaluable to me, and he will be greatly missed.”

Bayesian inference

The British-flagged Bayesian, which sank after being caught in a storm near Porticello in Sicily on August 19, has reportedly been insured by multiple firms.

Reuters sources cited yacht insurance provider OMAC as the on-board carrier – with powers from Travelers, Navium Marine, and Convex – and British Marine as the protection and restoration insurer.
