Trump says he'll vote against Florida's abortion rights amendment Reuters
(Reuters) – Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said on Friday he would vote against an amendment in his home state of Florida that would enshrine abortion rights in the state constitution and repeal the current six-week abortion law.
Trump did this on Fox News, a day after causing confusion when he appeared to suggest in an interview with NBC News that he would vote for the amendment.
The amendment is strongly opposed by anti-abortion groups that supported her campaign in the November 5 election against Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris.
“I think six weeks, you need more than six weeks,” Trump said, adding that he believed the proposed amendment was too permissive.
“So I'm going to be voting no for that reason,” Trump said.
Trump, who appointed three Supreme Court justices who ended constitutional protections for abortion, said the issue would now be decided by individual states.
