WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Seven people, including a six-year-old and a 16-year-old, were killed when a bus overturned east of Vicksburg, Mississippi, early Saturday morning, Warren County Coroner Doug Huskey said.
The two young victims were siblings, according to the coroner.
The Mississippi Highway Patrol said the incident happened around 12:40 a.m. on Interstate 20 near Bovina in Warren County when a westbound 2018 Volvo (OTC:) left the road and overturned.
37 passengers were taken to different hospitals with unknown injuries, said the agency. It said that the driver was not transported.
“Anytime there are people injured or dead, it's sad but when you have a situation like this where there are multiple deaths and multiple injuries, it makes it worse,” Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace told the ABC affiliate.
Huskey said most of the passengers on the bus were Latin Americans.
