Active shooter near Kentucky highway, reports of 'several people' shot by Reuters

(Reuters) – Kentucky police reported a “shooting situation in progress” on Saturday evening along Interstate-75 in London, Kentucky, where “several people” were shot on the road.
The incident began just before 6:00 p.m. (1000 GMT) about nine miles outside of London, when police were called to reports of multiple vehicles being shot on Interstate 75 in Laurel County, multiple media outlets said. It is said that these guns were coming from a forested area or an upper area.
“Please avoid I-75 near Ext 49. Until further notice! Use another route and don't be there in that area,” London Mayor Randall Weddle said on Facebook (NASDAQ: ).
Police officials said the suspect has not yet been arrested.
Kentucky State Trooper Scottie Pennington wrote on Facebook, “The suspect has not been apprehended at this time and we urge people to stay inside.”
Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear wrote on X: “Kentucky, we are aware of the shooting that happened on I-75 in Laurel County. Please avoid the area. We will provide more information when it becomes available.”
He also asked that they stay, “Please pray for everyone involved.”
London is a small town of about 8,000 residents, about 100 miles northwest of the state capital of Frankfort.
