It takes a lot of concentrated effort to create assets that generate income. Eighty-four percent of the self-made millionaires in my Wealth Habits study created three assets, each asset generating a stream of income. Thirty-nine percent have four income-generating assets and 27% have five income-generating assets.

Each money-making asset took about five years of intense, intense effort to create. Self-made millionaires did not try to build multiple income generating assets at the same time. They know a little secret to building wealth – you have to focus on creating one income generating asset at a time.

What's so deep about this little secret to building wealth?

Building income generating assets is impossible if your focus is scattered, meaning you are trying to create multiple streams of income at once.

Scattered Focus is a waste of time.

Scattered Focus creates weak assets and weak assets create weak income streams.

Scattered Focus creates exponential problems – too many obstacles/problems for the mind to solve at once.

Scattered Focus causes missed opportunities – you have to focus every day on growing one stream of income to see the opportunities that present themselves.

Scattered Focus creates a minimum in terms of your knowledge or skills – you have to show up/focus completely and totally on the task of building income generating assets, to learn what works and what doesn't. That learning increases your knowledge/skills, which can be used and increase income generating assets.

The good news is that you can build assets that generate income from time to time. In order to do so, however, you must set aside 1-3 hours each day and focus heavily on building that one income-generating asset. Creating income generating assets is a process and that process is transferred to the creation of additional income generating assets.
