Death toll from Vietnam's Typhoon Yagi passes 250, toll still missing Reuters
HANOI (Reuters) – The death toll in Vietnam from typhoon Yagi and the landslides and floods it triggered rose to 254 on Friday, the government's disaster management agency said, as floodwaters receded and search efforts continued.
The Southeast Asian country is dealing with the impact of the strongest typhoon in Asia this year which hit its northeastern coast on Saturday.
More than 820 people were injured and 82 are still missing, said the organization.
Hundreds of thousands of children have lost their homes and lack access to clean water, sanitation and health care, UNICEF said in a statement.
About two million children are left without education, psychosocial support and school feeding programs as schools are damaged and without electricity and water, it added.
