You are not behind! Start where you are.

Are you feeling down about your financial situation right now? Read this for inspiration!

Another wrote earlier this week that she felt overwhelmed by the idea of budgeting because she felt that they were so far behind that trying to create a budget would simply discourage her.

My heart goes out to them… because I know there are many who are struggling right now and sometimes it feels safer and easier in the short term to avoid looking at the numbers.

But I want to gently encourage you to stop feeling behind. There is no exact definition of what is “before” and “behind” – so you can choose to stop allowing yourself to feel behind.

I'm thinking of Flylady. I used to follow him years ago when I got married. (Who else?) She gives practical advice on how to keep your home and life organized in small, bite-sized pieces every day.

One of the things I remember him always saying was, “You're not back! Start where you are!” He encouraged people to jump in where they are and start clearing clutter and cleaning. Because doing something is doing something – and it will make a difference!

I think the same can be applied to budgeting. If you go into the budget feeling behind, you're already starting to feel depressed and defeated.

If, instead, you choose to start where you are and do what you can, little by little you will be taking baby steps that will change your financial path.

Yes, you may have financial problems to address. Yes, you may need to declutter your expenses and find more organized systems to help you keep track of what you do and what you spend.

But start where you are and do what you can.

Don't let a pile of debt hold you back.

Don't let the lack of a good system get you down.

Don't let your feelings of not being able to budget discourage you.

Don't compare yourself to other people's financial situations.

Stay in your lane. Celebrate every little win. Surround yourself with people who will cheer you on your journey.

And keep taking that next small step and the next small step! Congratulations!!
