GEICO has quickly adjusted its disaster response team to prepare for Hurricane Milton, which is expected to make landfall Wednesday in the Tampa Bay area.

The insurer's mobile disaster response command center (pictured) is now set up outside the storm's projected path and will arrive at a strategic location on the Florida peninsula when the storm passes, with hundreds of repair and support workers across the country on standby. .

“We've already had crews on the ground for more than a week helping customers affected by the devastating effects of Hurricane Helene,” said GEICO vice president Frank Pickering.

“These teams are in the process of relocating to better locations outside of Hurricane Milton's proposed path, and will be fully prepared to regroup and return to locations throughout Florida once the storm passes.”

Forecasters suggest that Hurricane Milton may intensify, posing a significant threat with strong winds and dangerous storm surges.

In anticipation of the storm, GEICO is urging its customers to take immediate precautions. Measures include moving vehicles to flood-prone areas, obtaining important vehicle registrations, planning an evacuation route, keeping fuel tanks full, and preparing a disaster kit.

Insurers are also encouraged to install the GEICO mobile app or save the claims contact number on their phones, as claims can be filed through the app or by calling 1-800-841-3000.

GEICO is also reminding customers to remain vigilant even after the storm. For example, vehicles submerged in water should not be driven, even after the water recedes. Customers are similarly advised to move away from vehicles parked near downed power lines.

GEICO also gave assurances that its disaster response team will continue to be deployed in affected areas “as long as necessary”.
