Donations enhance relief and recovery efforts

Insurance companies and their related organizations are doing more than just processing claims after Hurricanes Helene and Milton, to bolster relief efforts in Florida.

The GEICO Philanthropic Foundation, for example, donates $500,000 to the American Red Cross while also committing to a dollar-for-dollar match for its employees' donations.

LaDonna Bond, DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion) and head of social impact at GEICO, said: “At GEICO, we are committed to uplifting the communities where we live and work, and this is especially important after natural disasters.

“The GEICO Philanthropic Foundation is proud to support the American Red Cross in its ongoing efforts, and its expertise in disaster relief will ensure that donations reach those most affected, providing critical assistance during this difficult time.

Meanwhile, XINSURANCE, operating under the DBA of Evolution Insurance Brokers, has deployed special teams to provide personal support to the affected communities in Florida. XINSURANCE will also match a total of $100,000 in donations.

“When we say we fight for you when things go wrong, we mean it – and that includes being there, on the ground, where it matters,” said XINSURANCE CEO, president and chairman Rick J. Lindsey.

To aid in the recovery, USAA and its members alike have contributed nearly $3 million, including $1.4 million that will go to support efforts led by the American Red Cross, Team Rubicon, and World Central Kitchen.

Wayne Peacock, president and CEO at USAA, said: “We saw the true strength of the USAA family after Hurricanes Helene and Milton. We are very grateful to our team members representing members, wearing boots on the ground and on the phone and digitally, and all our members who help support families in need.”

Zurich North America, on the other hand, is not only supporting policyholders but also its employees in the affected areas, increasing insurance claims staff where needed and donating at the same time.

“Milton and Helene caused significant damage and disruption, and we are committed to supporting affected customers, partners, and communities in recovery efforts,” said Zurich North America CEO Kristof Terryn. “While losses are difficult, long-term recovery offers many opportunities to strengthen resilience to future storms.”

Helene made landfall as a Category 4 hurricane in Florida's Big Bend region in September, while Milton made landfall as a Category 3 hurricane in Siesta Key this month.
