DENSO Signs Memorandum of Understanding with Finland’s Canatu for Practical Use of Carbon Nanotube Technology Investing.com
KARIYA, JAPAN, Dec 4, 2024 – (JCN Newswire) – – DENSO (OTC:) Corporation recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Canatu to promote the practical application of carbon nanotube technology. By strengthening their relationship, the two companies intend to deepen their cooperation to contribute to the development of self-driving technology and the realization of carbon neutrality.
As self-driving technology continues to evolve, cars must accurately detect their surroundings using cameras and other sensors. However, problems such as frost and condensation can impair visibility and make detection difficult. To address these challenges, DENSO is developing products that use reflective films made of flexible, transparent materials. Carbon nanotube technology is the key to this development.
Carbon nanotubes are carbon-based materials with excellent properties, characterized by high strength, light weight, and good electrical and thermal conductivity. They have great promise for a variety of applications. Canatu has a new technology that allows the efficient production of high-purity carbon nanotubes using proprietary materials and is strong in the creation of a visible conductive film.
DENSO has been collaborating with Canatu by combining Canatu’s advanced optical film technology with DENSO’s expertise in automotive technology and mass production. In April this year, the companies successfully built a reactor at the Canatu production site in Finland, which greatly increased the production of carbon nanotubes. They also include heaters that reflect the light of car cameras and windshields. Going forward, DENSO and Canatu will continue to advance efforts to sell reflective heaters while also expanding their use in environmental technology. Their goal is to develop technologies that contribute to carbon neutrality.
Important Areas of Cooperation
DENSO and Canatu will accelerate efforts in the following three areas to achieve effective use of carbon nanotube technology:
1. Research and Development
Create new applications, including transparent heaters and solar energy technology, using carbon nanotubes.
2. Mass Production Technology
Participate in the development of production equipment and processes to achieve the quality required for mass production.
3. Global Supply Chain Development
Start exploring the establishment of a reliable supply system to ensure stable and continuous delivery of high quality products.
DENSO will continue to promote technological development in cooperation with partners in various fields, contributing to the sustainable movement of people and the planet.
