I chose these 4 titles based on which books stuck with me, which most challenged me, and which I found myself talking about and admiring after reading them.
My Top 4 Favorites To Read From 2024
With the Eye of the Lion — Although I have never experienced the loss of a child, I felt this book is full of practical encouragement for anyone who has found themselves overwhelmed by grief and heartbreak. It is the story of the Lusko family who lost their five-year-old daughter before Christmas due to an asthma attack.
It’s sad and honest, but also hopeful and points to Jesus again and again. I feel that every Christian can be personally encouraged by reading this message on how to go through scary situations without losing your faith in Jesus. It also helped me to have a small window into what it would be like to lose a child and how to cope with someone who is dealing with this loss.
No Waste — In 2015, Davey’s wife Amanda and their unborn child were killed. In this memoir, she shares more about what it was like to walk through that horrific loss, the real and raw emotions she felt, and how changing her perspective from hate to compassion gave her the strength to forgive her perpetrators.
He candidly discusses his initial anger and difficulty in forgiving – both others and himself, facing the challenges of rebuilding amid great loss, including the unexpected closing of the church he founded with Amanda. Through it all, Davey talks about how he was questioned about God’s presence even in the darkest of times.
One of the most important parts of this book for me was when Davey shared how empathizing with those who have caused him unimaginable pain and entering into their stories changed his perspective on grace and redemption. His insight is a powerful reminder of God’s ability to bring beauty from ashes, reshaping our understanding of suffering and endurance!

Slow Production — I enjoyed this book quite a bit (the title alone makes you want to make sure you don’t fly in it!) and it touched me deeply. I will consider proposals for future years. It’s already challenged me to rethink the way I structure my days and weeks (especially considering one of the book’s main building blocks is multitasking!) and it’s made me really think about the best way to set things up. our business and programs.
It was simple and yet so profound. If you own a business, work in any type of profession, and/or struggle to find your value in productivity or feel like crossing things off your list and packing your days to the fullest is “being productive”, definitely consider reading. this book!
Unconnected Hours — This was one of those books that could be challenging and stay with me for a very long time. And it was one of two books that inspired my voice in 2025 (more on that in a few days!). I really liked how this book felt encouraging and doable, not guilt or legal! It made you want to disconnect more because it will enrich your life and not disconnect because you feel you should or should or that all technology is bad.
Inspired by this book, I set myself the goal of logging 1000 hours in the next year and enjoying an untethered life. I will share more about what that will look like in my Word of 2025 post!
