Norway to stop deep sea mining, pro-minority group says By Reuters
OSLO (Reuters) – Norway will not go ahead with deep-sea mining plans, the SV party that supports the leftist minority government said on Sunday, after concluding talks on next year’s budget with the coalition.
“We are stopping the plans to open mines in the sea,” Kirsti Bergstoe, leader of the blue group SV, told the media.
Until now, Norway, whose huge hydrocarbon reserves have made it one of the world’s richest countries, has taken a leading role in the global race to mine the much-needed metals as countries transition from fossil fuels.
