The Blue Light Card, known for offering special discounts to NHS workers, paramedics, social workers, and the armed forces, has now extended its benefits to include teachers.
This exciting development was met with an overwhelming response, causing the Blue Light Card website to crash due to overwhelming demand from teachers eager to access these savings.
What is a Blue Light Card?
The Blue Light Card offers discounts on popular brands and services, such as Asda, Apple, Odeon, Starbucks, and Halfords.
These discounts are a way of thanking those in the essential services for their hard work and dedication.
Now, teachers can join this community and enjoy the same benefits.
Which teaching staff are eligible for a Blue Light Card?
Teaching and support staff working in any of the following are eligible:
- State Primary Schools and Primary Schools
- Government Secondary Schools and 6th Form Colleges
- Special Schools, Vocational Schools, Transfer Centers, and Central Employers
I am sorry to say that currently higher education staff are not included in this presentation. However, there is a certain portal about the introduction of the teacher which may be updated if things change.
Why are teachers now eligible for a Blue Light Card?
Teachers are important to society but face huge financial challenges, high pressure jobs and low pay.
Extending the benefits of the Blue Light Card to these groups is in line with the objective of supporting essential public workers.
How to register as teaching staff
You can apply directly on the Blue Light Card site – but at the moment there is a LONG wait!
From the Services list, select Teachers.
You will also need to verify who you say you are. There are two ways to verify:
- Fast email domain verification: If you work at a primary school, you can quickly verify using your work email address.
- Uploading a document: If you work at any other eligible school type, you will need to upload a valid work ID or pay slip that includes your name and school. This will be reviewed by the Blue Light Card team, and you should receive a response within 7 days.
It costs £4.99 to sign up, you can easily save hundreds with membership!
Due to the large number of applicants, processing times may vary slightly.
Are teachers green light workers?
No, teachers are not green light workers, but now they can get a bonus.
The company's mission is to save money for members and to recognize and reward the dedication of valuable employees to the community.
Teachers are valuable workers who often put the needs of others before their own.
The goal is to support them financially and provide access to exclusive experiences to promote work-life balance and wellness, but the cynic in me says it's also about the Blue Light Card making a ton of money with new memberships…!
