Union at BHP's Escondida copper mine in Chile signs new contract, ending risk of strike By Reuters
Santiago (Reuters) – Chile's Escondida mine union, the world's largest, signed a deal with BHP on Sunday, ending the risk of another strike that could have threatened the world's supply of red metals.
Earlier, the union had sent a memo to members warning that it may call another strike if the company “doesn't correct its view” on contract negotiations.
The powerful union in this mine went on strike on Tuesday due to disputes over pay and reached an initial agreement on Friday to end it.
