Kenyan school fire kills 17 students By Reuters
NAIROBI – A fire that broke out at a school in central Kenya has killed 17 students, a police spokesman said on Friday, following media reports that they burned in an unknown manner.
Some of the rescuers were on their way to Hillside Endarasha Academy in Nyeri, said the department's spokesperson, Resila Onyango, on the Kenyan radio Hot 96 FM, and the authorities will provide information later.
“We lost 17 students in the fire and 14 were injured…,” Onyango told Reuters by phone. “Our team is currently on the scene.”
The fire burned the students in an unknown way, Citizen Television said earlier.
Nine students died in September 2017 when a school caught fire in the capital, Nairobi.
