BRASILIA/SAO PAULO (Reuters) – The first report on the plane crash that happened in August in Brazil found signs of ice accumulation on the plane but there is no clear cause of the crash, said the Center for Research and Prevention of Aeronautical Accidents (Cenipa) in that country. on Friday.
The document revealed that the icing detectors were activated on the Voepass plane, while the Cenipa official told the press conference that the recordings from the truck driver's cabin showed that the pilot said there was a big snow during the flight.
According to the investigators, that comment indicates that the plan to remove the plane may have failed, but Cenipa said the details still need to be confirmed.
Three experts interviewed by Reuters suggested that icing could have played a role in the accident, but urged caution because the report is preliminary and accidents are caused by many factors.
An ATR-72 plane from local airline Voepass spun out of control before crashing on August 9, killing all 62 on board.
According to Cenipa, the investigation into the accident will probably take more than a year.
US aviation safety expert Anthony Brickhouse said: “Everything I read in today's report is consistent with icing, but it's rare for accidents to be caused by a single event.
According to officials, the loss of speed warnings was triggered, but the ATR crew never declared an emergency before the plane crashed.
Cenipa officials on Friday also said that it is not clear to them why a plane with all the necessary certificates ended up going out of control. “What we know is that the plane was flying in an area with heavy snow,” said Lieutenant Colonel Paulo Froes.
The airline said in a statement that the report confirmed that the aircraft and pilots were properly certified, adding that the necessary ATR systems were in place. It added that the company will continue to cooperate with the investigation.
