Allstate is here to help | Allstate newsroom
After nearly a century of helping people overcome disasters, we know that the aftermath of a hurricane is an emotional time. We know that getting your health back in order is a priority.
That's why we moved quickly to reach our customers and the community as quickly as possible.
Allstate Mobile Claims Centers are conveniently located in the hardest hit areas to help you take the first steps to recovery. Customers are welcome to stop by at any time to speak to a repair person, file a claim and non-customers can also pick up a water bottle or teddy bear for a baby who could use some comfort. Locations of mobile phone claims centers can be found here.
Whether you're an Allstate customer or not, we share general insurance information, important government services available to you and quick safety and recovery tips in our Allstate Good Hands Recovery Guide.
For quick reference, here are the steps we recommend taking after the storm has passed:
First and foremost, protect the safety of your loved ones.
- Let your family, friends and others know that you are okay.
- If cell service becomes congested, try texting or emailing. Also, consider posting your status on social media or registering on the American Red Cross' Safe and Well website.
- Follow evacuation orders and find temporary shelter or seek shelter with family or friends unaffected by the disaster.
- Save your phone's battery life by dimming your screen brightness, turning off Wi-Fi, and closing non-essential apps.
Do not enter your home unless you know it is safe.
- Power lines, standing water or natural gas leaks may be exposed. If you are concerned that it may not be safe, do not enter.
- If it is safe to return to your place, consider your losses. Dispose of damaged personal property. If it is unsafe to keep any damaged items, try to take pictures of them so your adjuster can review them as part of your claim, and dispose of them accordingly.
- Make temporary adjustments to avoid further injury. If necessary, have a qualified repair service or contractor make temporary repairs to prevent further loss. Make sure you keep the bill or invoice and give it to your claims team to consider as part of your claim. Take lots of pictures before any adjustments take place.
- Your home may be deemed uninhabitable for reasons such as no running water or your overall safety being compromised. Contact your claims team to see if you have money to cover extra living expenses.
- Save all receipts to document any increase in your expenses while your home is uninhabitable and give them to your claims team to consider as part of your claim.
Start the claims process as soon as possible.
