Trump is safe after another assassination attempt at his golf course in Florida By Investing.com
Former President Donald Trump was unharmed after a second assassination attempt outside his golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida, on Sunday.
The gunman was hiding in the bushes near the golf course line. Secret Service agents, clearing the course before Trump's arrival, saw a barrel of a gun in the bushes.
Police engaged the gunman, firing at least four times around 1:30 p.m. The gunman then dropped his gun, two backpacks and other belongings before fleeing the scene in a black Nissan (OTC:). According to the police, the witness was able to take pictures of the car and its license plates.
Authorities quickly issued an alert about the vehicle, which led deputies in neighboring Martin County to catch the suspect on I-95.
“We have someone in custody,” confirmed Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw.
Earlier, Trump's campaign assured the public that it was safe despite gunfire nearby. Trump later sent an email to his supporters, saying, “There have been shots fired in my neighborhood, but before the rumors start spreading, I wanted you to hear from me: I'M SAFE AND WELL!”
The incident comes after a previous assassination attempt in Pennsylvania on July 13, which raised concerns about security measures in place for presidential candidates ahead of the highly anticipated November 5 election, where Trump will face Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris.
In response, the White House issued a statement confirming that both President Joe Biden and Vice President Harris had been briefed and were relieved that Trump was not injured. Harris also addressed the incident on social media, saying, “Violence has no place in America.”
