5 Pet Businesses You Can Do From Home
Yesterday, I got a dog. We named him “Peter’s Fortune Biscuit” and he is adorable. We had to find a pure brand because we needed a hypoallergenic brand that would be compatible with our son’s allergies.
Our son has always wanted a dog. He did all the research on hypoallergenic breeds and made a compelling case for getting a doodle, a Portuguese Water Dog or, my favorite, a basenji. We’ve loved every aspect of the Labradoodles we’ve come across, except for the price tag. We met two breeders, and they both told us the same price – $2,500!
Pet Business Ideas: Breeding Dogs?
The ranchers we met had one thing in common. Breeding dogs was “secondary work.” In each case, the husband and wife worked during the day, and the dogs were their second source of income. Both farmers also involved their children and turned breeding into a family business – one that pays very well.
The breeder we bought biscuits from has dogs that have been littered every month of March, April, and May. She has already sold all the puppies from the April and May litters – 14 puppies for $2500 each. Granted there are additional costs for food, toys, vet bills, and fees, but most of that $2500 per pet is profit.
Our breeder told us that she and her husband sat down with their two daughters six years ago and had a family meeting. They thought that having children was something they wanted to do together. After unanimously agreeing, they bought two breeding doodles, did a lot of research, and haven’t looked back since. The youngest daughter, now 13 years old, manages the breeder’s photos and website. The eldest daughter, now 17 years old, takes care of the puppies a lot and must do a good job with it – she just bought a new Volvo convertible with the money she got from taking care of the puppies.
I’ve learned a lot about animals this month, some of them unpleasant, but most of them are wonderful, and I’ve learned that there are many ways to turn a love of animals, or at least an interest in them, into methods. to make money. Here are five pet business ideas you can run from your home.
Become an Animal Breeder
Whether you breed cats or dogs, you can earn money by raising healthy, clean animals. If you own your home, you can certainly earn more than enough to pay off your annual mortgage in one dump a year. Raising puppies is a lot of work, but it’s also incredibly rewarding. A pet door and plenty of puppy potty training pads are a worthwhile investment as a breeder. Our breeder told us the joy he gets from placing a puppy in a good home makes him feel happy for days, although it is difficult to see his “children” leave his house.
Be the Bridegroom
In our community, several pet groomers are available to groom pets in the owner’s van. One in particular charges anywhere from $50 to $150 an hour depending on the services you choose. There are pet grooming schools in all 50 states. If you love animals and like to get out and about during the day, animal grooming is a great way to make a living.
Become a Dog Walker
If you live in an urban area, many professionals do not have time to walk their dogs, especially during the weekdays. Dog walkers can earn up to $30 an hour and sometimes more. All you need is a way to go to the dogs and a way to advertise your services, and you can set yourself up as a dog walker.
Become a Pet Sitter
When pet owners travel, they don’t want to worry about their pets. Pet owners will visit the pet regularly during the day, feed and water the pet, walk the pet, and generally care for the pet while the owner is unable to do so.
Become a Pet Chauffeur
Many pet owners, especially elderly ones, can’t take their pets to vet appointments or other appointments (and to be honest, I can’t really figure out what those “other” appointments might be). Pet drivers are drivers who will take their pets to those scheduled times so that the owner does not have to find a way to do so.
